The Lenfest Center for Sustainable Energy will lead the scientific research on a multi-year $19.5 million grant awarded by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) to create a thriving carbontech innovation ecosystem.
The project will focus on commercialization of carbontech technologies that convert carbon dioxide into valuable end products and services. Together with the Center on Global Energy Policy (CGEP), and Columbia Technology Ventures (CTV), this effort will play a crucial role in catalyzing the creation of a thriving carbontech innovation ecosystem in New York State for the commercialization of carbontech technologies that capture or convert carbon dioxide (CO₂) into valuable end products or services. Lenfest Center will lead the scientific research, CGEP will lead the policy discussions, and CTV will lead the commercialization effort.
"The CarbonTech Development Initiative will bring together highly interdisciplinary teams led by the researchers at the Lenfest Center for Sustainable Energy, in order to make a paradigm shift in developing a new circular carbon economy. Through scientific and technological breakthroughs, we will lead the global efforts in the decarbonization and de-fossilization of industrial sectors, while advancing the fundamental understanding of managing carbon throughout our engineered and natural systems."
