Aaron Moment researches methodologies for developing manufacturing processes for fine chemical, pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical products. By applying advances in sensing, imaging, visualization, modeling, simulation, and materials, Aaron devises more robust, reliable, efficient, safer, portable processes that are less sensitive to scale-up challenges and disruptions.

Prior to joining Columbia, Moment spent 16 years in the pharmaceutical industry as a chemical engineer at Merck & Co. and DuPont Pharmaceuticals, where he developed expertise in reaction engineering, crystallization design, process scale-up, technology transfer, quality by design, process characterization, process definition, process safety, process analytical technology, and particle engineering.  He holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and MS and PhD degrees in Chemical Engineering from MIT.  He was a member of the 2006 and 2010 USPA Presidential Green Chemistry award teams for improvements to manufacturing Sitagliptin (Januvia), and is author of 5 patents related to pharmaceutical processes. He is a member of American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and the American Chemical Society (ACS).
